Montessori Toddler Program Guide

For Age: Ages 18 Months – 24 Months

Your Title Goes Here

Introduction

We welcome children ages 18 to 24 months into a safe, loving environment built on the Montessori principle of following the child.

During this exciting stage of development, toddlers are eager to move, explore, communicate, and do things independently. Our thoughtfully prepared classroom supports their growing need for order, language, movement, and self-discovery through meaningful, hands-on experiences.

With individualized guidance from caring teachers, children are encouraged to build confidence, curiosity, and independence while learning at a pace that is right for them.

The Prepared Environment

Our toddler classroom is carefully designed to encourage exploration while providing comfort and security.

Beautiful Montessori materials are displayed on low shelves so children can independently choose activities that match their stage of development. Wall mirrors, soft movement areas, and child-sized climbing features such as ramps, railings, and low steps encourage toddlers to strengthen both fine and gross motor skills as they gain confidence in their abilities.

Every element of the environment is intentionally prepared to support safe exploration, movement, and growing independence.

Practical Life & Self-Care

Toddlers naturally want to participate in the world around them, and our classroom encourages that growing independence through meaningful daily activities.

Children practice practical life skills such as putting on coats and shoes, preparing simple snacks, washing hands, cleaning up after activities, and caring for classroom materials. These experiences strengthen coordination, concentration, responsibility, and self-confidence while helping children discover the satisfaction of doing things for themselves.

Each new accomplishment helps children build the confidence to take on the next challenge.

Language Acquisition & Communication

Language development is part of every moment in the Montessori classroom.

Our teachers engage children in meaningful conversations, read books together, sing songs, and introduce rich vocabulary throughout the day. As toddlers hear and practice new words, they become more confident expressing their thoughts, needs and emotions.

A language-rich environment not only supports communication but also lays the foundation for future reading and writing skills.

Alleviating Frustration through Speech

As toddlers develop language, they gain new ways to communicate with the people around them.

Our teachers model respectful communication and provide children with the vocabulary they need to ask for help, express feelings, make choices, and interact with their classmates. As communication skills grow, many children become more confident navigating everyday situations and building positive relationships.

Supporting communication in this way helps create a calm, respectful classroom where children feel heard, understood, and valued.

Individualized Ratios & Family Partnership

Strong relationships are at the heart of our Montessori Toddler Program.

Our teacher-to-child ratios allow educators to provide attentive, individualized care while getting to know each child’s unique personality, interests, and developmental needs.

We also believe that parents are an important part of their child’s learning journey. By maintaining open communication and partnering closely with families, we create consistency between home and school that supports each child’s growing independence and confidence.

Growing Independent Explorers

The toddler  years are filled with exciting milestones, from first conversations to new discoveries and growing independence.

At Pinebrook Montessori Kids Enrichment Center, we provide a nurturing environment where children are encouraged to explore, make choices, solve problems, and build confidence through meaningful experiences. Every day offers new opportunities to develop the skills that prepare children for the next stage of their Montessori journey.
